Sassy Fish

In celebration of my fancy new tablet and my fancy new paint program, I have made a fancy painting!

When I said I was going to do this, Jen said I must draw/paint a sassy fish with a top hat.  I spent a lot of time testing out various tools and brushes and preliminary sketches and my previous fish looked like garbage, but I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.  I decided to stick with wet oils.  Much to explore with this program, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

By the way, for anyone interested, I painted this in Corel Painter 12.

Anyhow, this is your update for the week.  Enjoy!

New Drawing Tablet!

Remember tablets before tablets?  That's right, prior to the iPad, a tablet meant pretty much the Wacom product line, which were these USB connected slates and you had a special pen you would use to draw with, and it would translate this info to your computer.  Well they still make them, and they're still super awesome, 'cause it's hard to do precise art drawing with your finger.  Not everything is about finger painting.  Well, I got a brand new Wacom Intuos4 drawing tablet for Christmas and some really great painting software that I'm quite eager to try out.  Problem is, the CD for some reason isn't working, so I'm downloading all the drivers which is evidently taking way way WAY too long.

Short of it is, I don't think I'll be able to produce something tonight to have an update by Tuesday like I usually do.  However, I will do something ON Tuesday, so if you're patient, come back later today and you'll see another blog post with hopefully some new art (Jen has asked me to make a sassy fish with a top hat).

So tune in later!  Sorry for the wait, but it's good to learn patience.  So consider this my Christmas gift to you.

Slightly Orange is Social Media Compliant!

In addition to updating Unfettered Discord this week, I have integrated Slightly Orange with Facebook and Google+!!!  (No, not twitter yet).

Now you can "like" or "+1" any of my site's content.  Underneath every animation and game screen, you can find these buttons and feel most free to click them with reckless abandon!

I'm hoping that this will create another venue in which my site's content can be shared around, and maybe increase the fanbase (especially since after my long haitus I lost a lot of people who were posting commands on Caveman Dan).  So spread the love!

Oh, and you may also notice that on THIS page (to the right of the blog) I also have linked in official Google+ and Facebook "Slightly Orange" pages.  It's just one other way of spreading around my site.  Still not totally sure what to do with those pages, but who knows, maybe things will work out.

Keeping your site up to date FAIL

So I'm heading into Toronto this weekend to visit some friends, and I was taking a look at places to eat, and "The Stockyards" restaurant was suggested to me.  So I had a look at their website and clicked on their specials.

Sounds delicious eh?  "NAME OF ITEM"... ohhh, my mouth is watering.. let's see the description... "loriem ipsum sedament lorierm adulus..." okay, stop right there.  You had me at "loriem".

Feel free to check out the site for yourself:  http://www.thestockyards.ca/
Also notice that the pages on the site are fittingly titled: "Untitled Document".

This Week's "Tuesday Update"

Caveman Dan continues, right here.  What else?  Not much really... that uh... that about sums it up.  Keep posting commands though!  We definitely need more people than my sister to post commands on Caveman Dan!

Get your German on

.... because it's St. Nicolas day!!!!  (Please, if you aren't reading the title of this blog entry as part of the post, you best start now).  As per our German tradition, we celebrate the feast of St. Nicolas who supposedly wandered around to poor people's homes and left gifts for people in their shoes or something.  The part that I'm sure of is every year my parents would leave a bag for us to find outside the front door, filled with German goodies.  Namely, nuts, chocolates and lebkuchen (which is a crazy German cookie which I actually never liked), and ORANGES!  Clementines and the like, which come out this time of year and go on sale, were always my favourite.  We just called them "Christmas oranges" because we always found them in our St. Nicolas bag, and then again in our stockings on Christmas.  We celebrated Christmas about 3 times a year:  St. Nicolas' day, Christmas Eve, and then Christmas Morning.  You wish you were German (and also Canadian at the same time).  Mixed traditions are awesome.  Anyway, I bought myself a box of oranges to keep the dream alive.  Really, this has zero to do with the fact that my website is "slightly orange".  Just childhood memories.  I just always loved how the skin peeled off so easy and the oranges were so juicy and it just has become almost synonymous with Christmas for me.... or at least St. Nicolas day.

Oh, and if you're all, hey, what about the website update this week Steve?  Then you best be reading the previous post, because I posted twice today.

Delicious German Dinner

Seeing as I spent all day Monday cooking for seminarians (had my group from St. Peter's come over for dinner) I didn't get around to really doing anything this week, so as I was thinking of rouladin (a german meat dish I made for the meal), I was thinking of eating.  So, I made this guy who noms down a cookie.  I figured if I drew rouladin, nobody would have any idea except my family what the heck is going on here.  Cookies are topical.  Everybody gets it.  So, sorry, but this is the only update this week.

I find this very disappointing. I can do so much better. Whatevs.

ZELDA!

Yes I am still a nerd.  But I feel more like one now.

I rarely pre-order anything, but I am quite pleased with the arrival of my pre-ordered copy of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  I'm mostly lolling at the fact that I now have a zelda-themed wii-mote.  And that this is the first time I've ever said "lolling", let alone "lol".  It's a nerdy feeling kind of day.

Oh, I also updated my website.  I added two new screens to Caveman Dan.

I reward my loyal viewers/readers!

I've done another update of Caveman Dan this week, and I'd like to urge all of you who enjoy my site to tell your friends.  I'd like to get some increased readership especially since it will make the games more fun if more people are participating and adding commands.  Speaking of which, feel free to add commands.  Dan shall be exiting this aspect of his feelings shortly, by the way.  So I got one more panel in me before I start making Dan stare at you like a hopeless, directionless soul as he remains clueless as to what actions to take if he has no commands coming his way.  And you don't want to do that to poor Dan, do you?  Well.. maybe you do.

Anyway, I also threw this together as an extra little treat.  A bonus update, if you will.  Since Michelle commented on my last post that she wanted a flaily guy.  So, I animated one for her.  I gave him a purple shirt, because I know Michelle loves purple.  See?  I reward those who post comments on my blog!

P.S. - That's actually a clickable button there, in case you didn't catch on.  I embedded a flash animation in here.

Blog Changes Done!

Changes complete!  Finally, my blog is properly synced up with the rest of my site.  Apart from that "blogger" bar at the top, which comes with the blog, oh well..

Those of you with a 1024x768 resolution won't notice any difference really...

Oh, and of course there's no crazy guy flailing his limbs on the site.  But there should be.  Here's a sample:

Making some changes

I'm going to be working a bit on my blog design to make it as much the same as possible with the rest of my website, so for the time being, you'll notice the top links to the rest of my site are no longer there... also, the blog may look terrible from time to time as I make edits.  Just a little FYI.

Is that a smile I see?

Look at that beautiful smile.  Who wouldn't fall in love with this adorable, balding caveman?

Okay okay, here's the Caveman Dan update.

By the way, I've noticed that nobody has yet to make use of the "save" function of the games.  Just letting you know in case sometime you don't relentlessly read my blog for updates each week and you miss some, and then you're all like, where was I last in the game?  Because really, if things go well some weeks I may add multiple scenes for Caveman Dan instead of just one.  Anyway... maybe no one cares... Blah blah blah blah blah... etc...

More Caveman Dan

Now that I'm past the hump, expect more updates like this with Caveman Dan.. I especially want to move on past the "exploring your feelings" section we're in.  Mostly because I think that with all the delays that have happened with the game, that most people have forgotten what's going on in the story so far.  In which case, I do recommend if you're confused, why not quickly flick through from the beginning, since there aren't a TON of scenes to go through.  Even visually without reading the text, you should be able to remember basically what's happening.  If anyone would like me to make a "key point" synopsis in a blog post, then just tell me in a comment below.

However, I do want to highlight that even though it seems like you guys have made some very odd commands that have led to areas such as Caveman Dan's "inner psyche of feelings", I do want to have a little fun exploring it, because I want to tell a bit more of a story so that you can get to know Dan as a character, and give him some depth.  The interior character is not going to be the primary element of this game, but mostly the entertaining journey and discovery and junk, but I think we gotta at least come to learn a bit more about Dan's motivation.

Anyway, that's my two cents.  So here's the next scene for Caveman Dan.  Enjoy!

P.S.  --  Any thoughts or comments on Caveman Dan so far?  Post your comments!  And also be sure to keep posting commands because that will be important for me to continue making new scenes!

Caveman Dan finally gets updated!!!!

I am SO excited about this one.  Mostly because Caveman Dan was really what I enjoyed doing the most.  I kept putting it off because I badly wanted to animate those flames going on in the background (which you can see if you click here to see the latest installment of Caveman Dan)  Then I got all caught up in Unfettered Discord and other animations and also the fact that I wanted to update some things due to the newer version of flash I now have...

Anyway... just... just enjoy that it's back.

P.S.  For those who watching anime (subbed, not dubbed), this is what I call the "YOSH!" pose.

Delayed Update

Sorry guys, but this week's update will be a little delayed (you may have to wait till next week) but with good cause.  I am working on a Caveman Dan update which I have been planning on for a LOOONG time, but have shelved it a number of times due to some trepidation in animating fire.  But I think I've nailed it... at least as much as I'd like.  However, there's still some work to be done, because I was delayed....

....the cause of my delay, more importantly, is this!  I present to you, the situation:  That's it... right here.  I invited Chris and Julie over (yes, the ones from the Ninja Turtles wedding video) for a bacon-tastic time, since they truly appreciate the culinary prowess.  So I took a stab at making one of those bacon-log type dealies, only I made it with ground beef, and added my own toppings.  As you can't see very well, I have some fried bacon chunks as well as sauteed onions on top of the beef, and then I added me some cheese.
 That's right... THERE's the cheese.

mmmmmmmmmmm

it's at this point I decided this was the "bacon cheeseburger log.

Then, I added some barbeque sauce.  Diana's honey barbeque to be exact.

Then I rolled up the beef, and then wrapped the bacon weave around it...

Barbequed and ready to serve!

It was definitely something to behold!

And then we sliced in and the three of us ate the WHOLE THING!  That's right.  Delicious!

Super busyman times

Well, things have been super busy this week, so I did not have the time to invest in a thorough update.  But as I said, by every Tuesday, SOMETHING would be updated on my site, and this week, it's my blog with a little sketch of a rather dignified horse with a glass of champagne!

How these updates are gonna work from now on...

First of all, yes, there's an update, and it's a song about a shark that I nabbed off songstowearpantsto.com, which is incidentally my favourite mostly-free song website.  I'll link the animation below.

What I wanted to mention is this... Slightly Orange Tuesday Updates... do not actually happen on Tuesdays.

...in truth, they never have.  They've always occurred before Tuesday at some point, I just only blog about it on Tuesday... and that's how I'm gonna keep doing it.  So, just in case you happen to go on my website earlier in the week, see an update, and then notice later my blog posting the latest update which you already saw a few days ago, don't be all like, "hey, that's not a new update!  I already saw it!" ... you just got a jump on the week, that's all.  It's still new material since the last Tuesday.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say about that ... now enjoy a Mechanical Shark

We're All Doomed

So I just read that tech has been developed for invisibility.  Apparently there's these little nano-dealies that can heat up really quick and copy a similar effect of redirecting light that happens in mirages.

You heard me right, we can now make junk invisible, and it's for real. Congratulations humanity, now we are all doomed.

It's just one stop before we make all weapons and fighter planes and tanks and really angry dogs invisible, and then anybody and their favourite pooch can surprise attack and kill any of us.  Then we'll have invisible nukes which will land 5 feet from you while you're humming showtunes and you won't know it until firey death ensues.  Thanks for comin' out, hope you enjoyed your life.

Maybe you'll be in the park enjoying a nice sunny day, when all of a sudden, you're being eaten by an bear.  And when the ranger comes in to tranq Yogi, he won't be able to find him anywhere, because he's invisible.... and he's right... BEHIND YOU!  Sorry Mr. Ranger, you can thank science for making invisibility possible, and now the tech's in the hands of bears.  Kiss your quiet days goodbye and huddle in a corner with your shotgun in fear.

And just so nobody thinks I'm making this up, here's the video that was posted to show the easy "on and off" switching of making these nano things invisible.  And no, it doesn't have to be in water.  They say it works best in water, but it works on land too.

"Adventures" games get a facelift

UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
R U 4 SERIUZ?

no.  Because I've only changed the coding, so it's not like I changed the visible appearance, but the interior appearance... it's more like an... organ-lift.  But organs are important too!!!

The long awaited feature than all 3 of you have been moderately looking forward to has finally been added.  No more losing your save game progress because your cache was deleted because now your games will be saved forever if you are logged in as a slightly orange user!!!!!!

Also, I updated Unfettered Discord (with two scenes), and I thought that this one was just fitting for being my 100th scene!!!!! between both games!  I've drawn/animated 100 now... that's pretty nuts.  It's been fun though!

Also, if you missed it, I have another post below explaining the other updates and asking you for your help because I love you.

Feedback

Hey all!

So, not the Tuesday update yet, though I did update a little... If you have a computer screen with a resolution above 1024x768, you'll see I've added a bordering of sorts around the pages, so things look a little cleaner now.  I've also made sure that my website looks good on phones and tablets.  Which I doubt anyone uses other than me to view my website, but whatever.

***BUT I'D LIKE SOME FEEDBACK!!!***

Yes, since I removed a lot of content from my site which had gone so long unused and unvisited, like the forum, I'd like to know what you guys think of how I've got my site put together now, and if you have any suggestions!  Especially since the forum was the main purpose for having a username on slightlyorange, I was thinking of reasons to keep them.

For one, I'm going to make saved games for caveman dan and unfettered discord saved through user logins.  Not exclusively, so those of you who don't want to sign up can still save, but by logging in, you won't lose your progress when your cache is cleared.

But I'd like other ideas too.  I also can give people email addresses on slighlyorange if anyone so desires.  Yep, you could have whatever_you_want@slightlyorange.com!!!!!

eh?  ehh?  EHHH?

Different Strokes for Different Folks

Today's Tuesday update is a little something I made to celebrate being off work at 4 o'clock when I was working at the mental hospital.  It's mostly an inside joke... or... well it's entirely an inside joke, but I think it's a cool dance so hey, you all get to enjoy it now.

Also, try to find Kermit and the banana!  If you can't, then I pity your sorry unsavvy webskills.

Oh, also, here it is.

First Tuesday Update!

Well, just like I promised, here's your first Tuesday update!

I revamped the whole site (a little more needs to be done, so it's rough around the edges, but oh well) and I also added a whole new episode of ninja turtles!

Go check it out!

You will notice the fancy new graphic with the big "2" in behind there.  That's 'cause after being away from doing ninja turtles episodes for so long, and the changes that have happened, I figured this is a new "season" of the show.  Whatever, go watch it, unless you have already.  Then watch it again.

*** fun fact: This episode was actually created for Chris and Julie's wedding and we showed it at the reception.  But after creating it, I decided I should continue making more of them ***

P.S - if you were all hardcore on my site, you may have noticed that it updated yesterday evening already... well that's how these things are gonna go.  I update sometime before Tuesday, then post to my blog about the completed update, on Tuesday.  That's the Tuesday update.

Slightly Orange Tuesday Updates

G'morning all!

So I got to thinking, since my website seems to periodically become a breeding ground for tumbleweed, I had an idea to keep it going fresh and give you a reason to visit it regularly, instead of watching it for a while, then forgetting about it until I sneak up behind you and say,
"HEY! I UPDATED MY WEBSITE FINALLY"
and then you say "AH!  Don't sneak up on me like that!"
and then I'm all like, "Sorry, that was not my intention"
and then you're all, "It's okay, you just startled me"
and then I wonder, "Hey, what's for dinner?"

I'd also like everyone to note that that last paragraph was one sentence.

BUT HERE'S WHAT I'M GONNA DO!

TUESDAY UPDATES!
get it?  slightly orange tuesday updates! heh heh he.. h..... ugh... sorry.

So I'm going to reorganize my website a little, and set things up with a "Tuesday Updates" section, where every Tuesday I will update SOMETHING.  What?  That's a mystery!  Maybe an animation, maybe one of my games, maybe some other new thingy thing, who knows!?  But at least you'll have something new to look at on my website every Tuesday.

I think what I will probably do is post said updates to this blog (making it easier for people who do RSS feeds etc) and then you can always go back and see what you may have missed!  I'm excited!  And I'll run around and tell a bunch of you (since most of you who read this or view my site I know personally) and then I'll dedicate myself to some kind of update by every Tuesday

:)

p.s. if you actually read this post, can you please post a comment below, no matter how mundane?  Maybe just write your name or something?  I wanna know if anyone at this point actually reads this blog.  Especially since I haven't updated in forever.

Facebook Arguments Fail

And this, my friends, is why I try not to bother getting into facebook debates/arguments anymore.... it just... doesn't... work.
